First Friday reception August 7, 7-9pm

Drawing is relevant to every artistic medium. Sometimes the widespread nature of its influence makes it easy to forget how much drawing is a medium in and of itself, with its own history, movements, and relationships. Trends in drawing have long wavered between drawing as a verb, a process, and as a noun, a product. The immediacy of drawing, the way it marks the artist’s presence, cannot be denied. Yet some drawings do more to communicate the representational idea than the creative steps to get there. Much of recent drawing exemplifies this notion of purpose and premeditation rather than improvisation. This exhibition seeks to examine today’s alignment, among both artists and art consumers. While we do not expect to draw any conclusions (no pun intended), we hope that this exhibition will showcase the countless ways drawing occurs.

The WCCA is pleased to exhibit work by local artists Alison Harris, Lily Cain, Rebecca Woods, Bhreon Bynum, and Jake Allee, as well as several pieces by James Klueg (Duluth, MN), and late Colorado artist Frank Mechau.
