Bob Bishop: Wandering Soul

August 4 – September 26, 2015
First Friday reception August 7, 7-9pm
Introductions at 6:30pm

Robert C. (Bob) Bishop began photographing Colorado landscapes for commercial use in the 1950s. He has sold postcards throughout Colorado for more than 50 years. A number of Bishop’s images from the Grand Junction and Aspen areas will be on display, along with some of his vintage camera equipment and photo journals. He studied photography under Ansel Adams and Minor White; Bishop’s work shares their attentiveness toward the natural environment of the American West. Since 1969 he has resided in Grand Junction, where he has spent much of his time hiking and photographing the Colorado National Monument and Pollock Canyon. Aspen was transitioning from its early mining days to a resort community when he started his photography there. As Aspen and the Grand Valley have evolved since the 1950s, so has the practice of photography. In both of these respects, Bob Bishop’s photographs capture moments in history.
