Imagined Wests: Sources and Influences in the Paintings of Paul Pletka

Wednesday, April 25, 6:30pm
Book signing to follow

Sponsored by Rob & Lou Jenkins
Free and open to the public

Raised on the Western Slope of Colorado, in the American Southwest, Paul Pletka has created a body of work that owes much to the West of his childhood and more to the West of his imagination. His paintings conjure scenes from the cultures, history and religions of the American West and Mexico – diffused, as Pletka writes, “through the lens of personal experiences, dreams, research and ancestral memory”. Pletka will discuss these influences in detail as he narrates a series of PowerPoint images of his work followed by an opportunity for Q&A.

Pletka’s visit coincides with the release of Imagined Wests by Amy Scott, the first book on Pletka in over 30 years. Imagined Wests will be available in The Art Center’s gift shop for a limited time only, the week of April 23. His work features prominently in the Art Center’s permanent collection and this week will also include an exhibition in Gould Gallery of some of The Art Center’s Pletka holdings.
