🌸 A Bridge Between Traditions
Join us at The Art Center for a special cross-cultural celebration. This year, Japanese Cultural Spotlight falls on Mother’s Day, arriving just after Japan’s national Children’s Day, Kodomo no Hi. We are bringing these two meaningful holidays together for a day of art, honor, and community.
Whether you are a student at CMU looking to celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month, a family looking to spend quality time with mom, or an art lover curious about Japanese culture, there is a place for you here.
🎏 What to Expect
Experience the spirit of Japan right here in the Grand Valley through a blend of traditional and contemporary activities.
Honoring Moms: Enjoy a special photo opportunity and handmade gift opportunities to show appreciation for the mother figures in your life.
Celebrating Youth: In honor of Children’s Day, look for Koinobori carp streamer displays, symbolizing strength, health, and a bright future for the next generation.
AANHPI Pride: May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. College students and community members are invited to engage with the rich history and artistic contributions of the Japanese community.
Interactive Art: Explore traditional crafts and displays that bridge the gap between Tokyo and Grand Junction.
🏮 Why Attend?
This isn’t just a festival; it’s a gathering. It’s the perfect Sunday afternoon to find a unique Mother’s Day gift, learn about the celebration of holidays in Japan, and connect with fellow students and neighbors in a welcoming, inclusive space.
Come for the culture, stay for the community. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
