An Exhibition of Artworks from The Art Center's Permanent Collection
Sponsored by Patricia Feinberg
February 7-April 5
Opening Reception: March 7
When it comes to the use of negative space, artists and enthusiasts often think of works produced in China, Korea, and Japan. Their watercolor paintings and prints embody the creative instinct of their respective cultures.
After the Meiji Restoration, Japanese artistic influence sparked an interest in the design characteristics of Japanese stylism. As a result, negative space became just as important to the artist and designer as the subject matter itself.
This exhibition features works from The Art Center's Permanent Collection that utilize both negative and positive space as compositional elements. Space will conclude the series of exhibitions focusing on the seven principles of art and design that make dynamic compositions possible. The exhibition will include Japanese prints from the Robinson Collection, as well as works by Woody Crumbo
