An Exhibition of Quilting as an Art Form by The Art Quilt Association
September 6-27
First Friday opening September 6
From landscapes to gardens to portraits and more, our members turn fabric into magical works of art. We are passionate in our desire to manipulate all types of textiles and to explore the diversity of mixed media. We may follow the Golden Mean ratio for dimensions, use Thermofax screens and special dyes to enhance our fabric surfaces, splash our creations with paint and ink or dip our fabric into rusty vinegar water or vats of indigo for special effects. No limits exist in our pursuit of contemporary designs. And finally, we carefully add texture by stitching our art pieces by hand and machine. For more than two decades, the Art Quilt Association (AQuA) has shown its art in local, state, national and international exhibitions, including the annual Pacific International Mancuso Quilt Festival in Santa Clara, California, and Mancuso International shows in New Jersey
and Pennsylvania. Our association has grown to nearly 60 members this year, who meet monthly at The Art Center in Grand Junction. We also offer frequent demonstrations, retreats, and workshops, as well as multiple-day learning sessions with today’s leading instructors in this art form.
