🖌️ About the Exhibition

Jac Kephart’s non-objective works have a familiarity to the landscape. While the works are not modeled directly on the image of our surroundings, their strong vertical compositions are reminiscent of the cracks and crevasses of Independence Monument.

Horizontal paths conjure the image of a skyline, where a few colored squares seem to take on the role of cottages in the distance. Experimental media provide texture, while found objects rust and transform, subtly changing the composition year by year.

Though these paintings may not carry a directly observable meaning, they share compositional elements and coloration with plein-air and landscape painting traditions. Whether or not the artist intended to reference the landscape, the works invite viewers to read them that way through structure, surface, and color.
