Capturing the “personality” of a place, the magical light, and captivating colors is evident in this exhibition featuring the works by nationally recognized plein air painter John Phillips. Phillips was born in New Mexico and had the opportunity to live in California, Australia, Texas, Asia, and now western Colorado. He embarked on his painting journey at the age of eight, wanting to capture the natural beauty in the landscapes that surrounded him.

“This collection of paintings represents my love of western Colorado: its wild beauty, sculpted rocks, dramatic skies, vivid colors, untamed terrain, and intriguing light. My goal and pleasure is to explore and create images that capture the many moods of this region – images that prompt a mutual recognition and joy between artist and viewer.”
