An Exhibition from The Art Center's Permanent Collection

Value is one of the seven visual elements of art and is an essential component of any great work. This exhibition will feature a selection of artworks sourced from The Art Center’s permanent collection that focuses predominantly on Value.

Value is what makes a painting come to life. It helps the eye to distinguish between forms and atmosphere. Value in a painting is contrast, a balance between light and shadow, indicating where one object ends, and another begins. It describes the highlight on a piece of glass or the shadow cast by an evergreen. Without value a painting has no drama, no life. It is value that describes the world we live in.
